Pavarotti's dead
Sep. 6th, 2007 11:21 amI remember Italia '90, the theme the BBC used for coverage was Nessun Dorma. I remember the quietness of it, then the sudden swelling into a powerful, moving piece of unintelligable foreign words, that nevertheless spoke to me more than pictures of Gazza's tears on pitch. In an A-Level English exam, one of the questions was about how moving some reviewer found a set text. My response was along the lines of, "that didn't move me at all. Something like Nessun Dorma is moving. The text failed to make any connection to me. Nessun Dorma always will." Most of my answers were similarly acidic, and the mark was low. But Nessun Dorma will always move me.
