Jan. 30th, 2007 08:07 pmaka DW Jamboree 2007. Thanks to ciciaye (and saintmaryuk) for the link.
Looks interesting. Especially some of the events. But...
It's bloody miles away! From anything! It's a six mile walk from the nearest railway station, and that station is Gillingham in Dorset, which is also miles from anywhere.
It's also organised by Bernard (the Cunning Artificer) Pearson, and for some reason, that makes me slightly ... edgy. Don't know why, but ever since a combination of being in the Fools' Guild for DWCon04, and the disaster that was the DW Almanac a couple of years ago, I've never been that easy about Bernard.
Plus, no tent. I borrowed a tent from someone at SLT for CCDE05, but that's not feasable any more. So, will either have to find somewhere local to stay, or fork out for a tent. I'd probably prefer to camp, given that I'm not keen on walking a mile or so at x o'clock in the morning along (almost certainly) unlit and (definitely) unknown country lanes each night - and what the hell would I do about my costume? (Nijel the Destroyer in the Maskerade, as I've had a script worked out for about a year). I may have to not enter. Or not go. Not going currently looks simplest.

Date: 2007-01-30 09:12 pm (UTC)Regarding the distance from the station, there are always helpful afpers around who'll be willing to give you a lift to the campground and back to the station afterwards. Ask around on afp for more information. Someone may be willing to share a tent so as you don't have to fork out for one too.
I hope you manage to make it :-)

Date: 2007-01-31 12:44 am (UTC)Six miles isn't all that far, really. Even with full kit it'd not take me 2 hours, and I like walking.

Date: 2007-02-02 08:06 pm (UTC)Not entirely correct. The nearest stations are Castle Cary to the north and TempleCoombe to the south. (Paddington and Waterloo lines respectively).
