Well, it's been an eventful week.

Did some overtime on Saturday, then went straight from work to the NaNoWriMo launch party at the Round Table at Piccadilly. There was much talking about novelling, much drinking, and much eating. I got interviewed for WrimoRadio about how I was going to be doing my novel (see below). I also got covered in ketchup after shaking the sauce bottle and not checking that the lid was on properly. I had a lovely nice red slash from my right shoulder to my left hip. Thank goodness I was going to put that T-shirt in the wash anyway.

Spent the evening (and most of the rest of my free time over coming days) frantically doing work to complete my GURPS Transfer Project (where basically, I transfer the basic principles of the Generic Universal Role-Playing System and some supporting data and routines onto computer so I can get a decent RPG on my own without cheating). I needed to do this, becuase I would be using GURPS as the framework for what would happen in my NaNo. I have the characters, I have the basic plot, but if anything interesting happens, it happens because the dice rolled it that way.

Anyway, on Sunday, my laptop caught a Trojan - that's what you get when you try and download a working copy of RealPlayer for free. So, I've spent a fair portion of the intervening time irradiating my hard drive. Finally managed to get rid of it on Wednesday, but performance is still down somewhat, so I will be spending a fair portion of Saturday scrubbing the drive.

Tuesday, Halloween. I'd got "Shaun of the Dead" rented from Amazon, and got in a pizza to eat while watching. Turned away three sets of trick-or-treaters as it was cooking (didn't get any more that night), then upstairs, lights off, DVD in, and go. Very funny. And the closest I will ever come to watching a zombie movie.

It does me proud, the way the British can do things like posit the Theory of Evolution, invent the steam engine and the jet engine, discover penicillin and the structure of DNA, and then go and use that knowledge gained to make Roast Beef Westerns (RD-VI, "Gunmen of the Apocalypse"), Vegeratian Horror Movies ("Wallace & Gromit and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit"), and Romantic Comedies With Zombies.

Coming home from work on Wednesday, thinking how I would be starting my NaNo, I was almost mugged on the bus. I was sitting upstairs and nearly home, when a group of yoofs got on and piled upstairs. They rapidly surrounded me, and the one sitting next to me had his face covered by a scarf. After repeatedly asking for the time, he started demanding my mobile. They say a refusal often offends, and I got punched in the face twice. I was just bracing myself to force my way past him, when he moved, so I did too. I ran down the stairs and called to the driver I was being mugged. He pulled over and hit the alarms, and the gang piled off. I stayed on until my stop, walked home, searched through two phone books for the police number and called them. Reported the incident, then had to wait for an hour before an ambulance arrived (at the suggestion of the operator - I hadn't taken much damage except a bit of a nose bleed and a headache) to give me quick check over. They concurred that nothing much was up with me, but advised me to call them if I experienced nausea/dizziness/etc. The copy of the incident report thay gave me is rather good - AVPU is A (whatever that means), respiratory rate 12-16, normal depth, pulse 65 regular, "perfused" colour (whatever that means), BP 122/86 and 116/72, both pupils reactive. Which saves me from going somewhere to get a general health checkup for my own piece of mind, like I was planning to in the near future, I suppose, but I wish the reason was a little more pleasant. So back to waiting for the police - during all this waiting, I was writing - who eventually turned up at 11.15. I gave them details of the incident, they said they'd get the CCTV from the bus, but there wasn't much chance of catching the perpetrators, and an incident letter would reach me in the next few days.

Anyway, that was that week. Tomorrow evening I'm going to a firework party at a hockey club that a mate at work belongs to, with a rather nice young lady I met at De Hems last month. Sunday will be spent with more writing and lazing around (probably), and on Monday I might get my hair cut, as today I didn't just have hat-hair, I had Man-Sized Rooster Hair.
